SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? The streets of San Francisco filled up with wet, but happy baseball fans late Monday after the San Francisco Giants clobbered the St. Louis Cardinals to clinch the National League pennant.
Following a 9-0 win over the Cardinals in the seventh and deciding game of the NL championship series, San Francisco fans took to the streets and celebrated their team's return to the World Series.
A driving rain that began drenching the crowd late in the game did not seem to be dampen the spirit of the fans, many outfitted in orange Giants gear.
Ecstatic ? and wet ? fans told television cameras that although they were drenched, they didn't mind. Cheers and car horns blasting could be heard for blocks from AT&T Park.
After the final out, virtually the entire sellout crowd remained in their seats as the Giants celebrated on the field and fireworks burst overhead.
The victory and celebrations came after concerns the final game might be rained out. Despite heavy showers early Monday and a brief cloudburst just before it started, the game went on without delay.
The Giants will play the Detroit Tigers in the first game Wednesday in San Francisco.
